Are you sure about that?  I wouldn't have thought so, since I've had to
add certain words to fix up spell-checking in some programs, but didn't
have to for others (not that I can remember which & when at the
moment).  And some programs have Australian English available, and
others don't.

Just a bit of googling shows that there's a variety of things that
could be involved.

Evolution - gspell and Enchant
Firefox - Hunspell
gedit - gspell library with Enchant
LibreOffice - Hunspell engine
Pluma - Enchant with Aspell or Hunspell
Thunderbird - Mozilla spell-checking engine
Vim - MySpell/Hunspell
