changing it to "Always" made it so I could click anywhere with the
mouse regardless of whether there were characters there or not. It
also doesn't interfere with Home and End working as expected to get
to the actual beginning or end of each typed line,
"Only for rectangular selections" is the default and probably what we want. You
can remove the ends of lines with a rectangle and not be constrained by how long
the lines are.
At least that's how it works for me.
