Don’t use the book like that. It is not there to follow step by step. It is there as a guide to implement the application you want to build.
As you can see, what you’re doing doesn’t work. You can continue being frustrated or use the book and the NetBeans Platform in the way they’re meant to be used — especially if you’re putting an IDE together, start with what there already is rather than developing from scratch. And with the book, ask yourself what it is you’re going to be developing and then use the book to guide you with that.
