The only reason you have to use the Task Manager is if you have set to
"Load OpenOffice during system start-up" in
your Tools --> Options --> OpenOffice --> Memory settings. By the way
this setting has been removed in 4.1.2

That is the first time I have heard of Task Manager shutdown of
OpenOffice as a features.
If it could work for you, the recently-opened
documents list might be a much better way to have a safe restart of a
previously-worked-on document.

the task manager to shut Open Office down. This way, after
I reboot, I can
have all my files open using the recovery window which
opens immediately
after clicking on the pinned icon on my taskbar.
