AIUI, this is not possible. The purpose of passwords is to prevent strangers
from opening a file, so why would you expect passing the file to a stranger
be a way of retrieving the data? I seem to remember someone saying that the
encryption used by OOo is strong.

Well. If you are lucky enough to have a Microsoft spreadsheet you can
open it easily. The security in xls is a complete failure.
