I get the OO.o, File, and Edit menus, but none of them allow me to open
or create anything.

The X11 window was not set to full screen. I set color to millions, but
it made no difference.

Hi

I tried to simulate the situation you describe, but it only happens on my
iMac when I have an OOo document minimized in the Dock...

• Do you ever get to see the blue starting-up window with the two gulls and
a blue line indicating progress of opening the program - otherwise I'm
afraid OOo wasn't installed properly, in which case you better de- and
re-install...

• Have you tried starting OOo by control-clicking (or right-clicking) on a
text document (or spreadsheet, presentation, etc.), chosing 'Open with' and
indicating OOo as the application to work with?
