I have been registered with OOo since version 1.0, however long that has
been ( well over 5 years). It is just that I have not reported a bug in
recent years. As I mentioned before, I tired to do so some years ago and, I
might be wrong, but I seem to recollect that the process way back then was
not all that simple and even when I found my way through the process, all
that happened was that I got a brusque response saying that my report had
been received but probably would not be acted on, and I haven't bothered
since.
If you would like to guide me through the current process I would be obliged

You need to be registered on OOo, then all you have to do is point to
this
address:
qa.openoffice.org
and select "enter issues" in the project tools section of the navbar. You
are then guided through the rest of the process.
There is also a Report Bugs link that explains in detail the procedures.

By the way, "registered" here is not the registration you do after you
install -- it's having a login ID and password for the site, which you
also need to contribute to forums and so on. The most involved part is
usually providing directions and/or sample files for others to use in
duplicating and testing your issue. I'll be glad to help with that offline
if you'd like, I went through such a process before responding to your
question.
