Better yet, give OOo 3.0 Beta a try:

http://download.openoffice.org/3.0beta/

It has built in import filters for MSO 2007.
There is also the option of downloading from http://go-oo.org
This variant of the OpenOffice.org code base also offers some amount of MSO 2007 file compatibility and a few other file formats that OO.o 3.0 does not offer - not to mention it is just plain faster overall then the vanilla OO.o binaries. ( although the 3.0 release is picking up some of the enhancements )

I did some comarisons of go-oo and 3.0 Beta on docx in a thread last
week. I found that, in general, the 3.0 Beta did a _much_ better job on
tables, but go-oo did better at graphics that were in the doc. I used
the MS RTF spec to do the comparison:

Unfortunately from what I hear ( read ) the two teams ( Novell and SUN ) are going down different paths for the interoperability .... kind of a shame really and I have no idea how that is going to get worked out in the 3.0 line...at some point I would think it would have to be.

Kind of the same situation with the solver for Calc - there is now the Novell version and the SUN version..totally different code base...I think in that situation it is going to be that both are extensions so a person can choose...(even if the extensions are packaged in the different distribution sets - another new feature for 3.0, the ability to have pre-packaged extensions in the distro file sets [ might have some bearing on the discussion about dictionaries?? ] ) in fact I think there is a third solver out there on the extension site already...
