Hi,
What about customers using SOGo »only« for EAS (ActiveSync)? Like us, if EAS is dropped, we will no longer have any use for paid and supported SOGo and will have to move to another solution. It should be noted that on most mobile devices, only a subset of EAS is actually used, and Grommunio therefore only supports that in addition to MAPI. Could it be an option to bring the old EAS support code to SOGo 6 and not develop it further? Android and IOS are not likely to require full EAS anytime soon. You could always mark it as unsupported (or paid support only!) and deprecated, but it would give us a way to keep going. Honestly, I would rather install PostgreSQL and abandon MariaDB than forgo ActiveSync on mobile. However, if you believe you can change the religion of the majority of IT users and administrators being „SoGo", you run the risk that you destroy good open-source alternatives and push people even more back to Microsoft. Embrace the reality and convince people to smoothly move to open-source by building bridges - and not destroying bridges to believe people feel forced to move away from Microsoft. All other ways are poised to make good projects like SoGo drown and people run back to Microsoft and Google…. Active Sync is easy to set up, but as an interface programmer you are at the mercy of Microsoft. We've been using Kopano (now SOGo) with our customers for a long time, and the (deliberate ?) change of the interfaces has caused ongoing problems. I know the pressure from customers to use Microsoft products, but I hope that new open (opensource) mail protocols will soon appear on the market that will free us from this dependency. Klaus Am 06.10.25 um 10:45 schrieb Michael Krecek ([email protected] <mailto:[email protected]> ): Agree to all of you, as ActiveSync is easier to setup and maintain across mobile and desktop devices and is also working much more flawlessly when it comes to calendar invitations. I submitted also a request to update the Exchange Active Sync / EWS version to support the latest features (like adding geographic locations of appointments and other) way back (2023/2024) and in the reaction by the SoGo dev team it sounded to me they want to support this. I also believe this could be a deal-breaker as also the implementation of exchange alternatives on the desktop like CalDAV are a No-Go for the majority of companies. There is a reason why Google is supporting Microsoft’s ActiveSync also ;-) Michael Am 04.10.2025 um 10:56 schrieb Simon Wilson ([email protected] <mailto:[email protected]> ) <mailto:[email protected]> <[email protected]>: Yes, I agree with this… This is a potential deal-breaker for SOGo for me - every user I run and support uses ActiveSync connectivity to phones (iOS, Nine, Samsung, others). MAPI would be a nightmare. I hope you can revisit the decision to stop with ActiveSync as I find it an easy, simple and relatively secure solution for external / mobile email. - Kees Op 02-10-2025 om 07:03 schreef Kai-Uwe Rommel - ARS ([email protected] <mailto:[email protected]> ): See my message to this list a couple of days ago about ActiveSync apps for Android. I really also like how ActiveSync works (e.g. only one account/connection to configure in one single app for mail, calendar and contacts). However, during the search for a suitable app I could only learn that almost anyone is abandoning it, even Microsoft. We recently got the problem that BlueMail on Android which had supported ActiveSync for a long time did suddenly not work properly any longer due to its latest update. That was the trigger why I searched for an alternative. We had used Nine before BlueMail and when I now checked Nine again I learned that the vendor does no longer maintain it in favor of a new solution which is a cloud based solution and stores user data there. So I could only decide to drop both of these and switch to Thunderbird and DAVx5 on Android. (We do not use iOS here. And we use Thunderbird on the Desktop, anyway.)
