I've always thought that "No such file or directory" was one of the clearest messages from a computer, but people ask all the time what it means. Also, I would imagine that their is either a hard or soft link in /usr/bin that points /usr/bin/perl to whatever version you currently have installed, and that might be better to use vs one that is specific to the exact version you are running.
