Similarly in the Athens marathon when most Britons were watching Paula
Radcliffe in her quest for gold.  She however had food poisoning problems
and was forced to drop out.  By watching the television, it was clear to see
how, in the latter stages of the race she had set the 36 km marker as an
intermediate target.  She got there, she clearly paused, then started
running again.  She then dropped out 100m further up the road.  The British
press were divided as to whether she had run 21 miles or 22 miles - none
mentioned 36 km.
