Is X-Win32 free? XFree86 is working in Cygwin now, and it's not difficult to get working. I've even heard rumors that XFree86 has a rootless mode in cygwin now...
No, it's not free DARN IT ALL!!! The demo version I have pops up every hour to remind me it is a demo. But it is still an excellent program, that I would be willing to buy if I could figure out how to buy a single license not a 25-user license. Anyway, most everyone here will probably just want to use Cygwin/XFree86. Rootless mode is very nice. Say, is there a way to get XFree86 WITHOUT Cygwin? Just wondering.
My favorite non-free Xserver so far is X-Thin from <http://www.labtam-inc.com/index.php?act=products&pid=9> but Exceed from <http://www.hummingbird.com/products/nc/exceed/index.html> is really the industry standard outside of OSS.
I'm pretty sure there's no XFree86 without Cygwin, but you could probably do an install of it that was almost nothing but X.
