I'll put in my plug for the metric system. Whenever I go buy stuff I have to do kilogram=>pound calculations in my head because I know kilos a lot better. I've spent a lot of time on open-air markets and butcher shops in Europe.
The only reason we still use the British System is that stupid American rednecks complain anytime people try to improve stuff. Even the Brits don't use the British System anymore.
