The proxy server is only required for port 80. Some browsers like to use
it for all http traffic though. You can always do this:
telnet checkip.dyndns.org 8245
GET /

to get the html spit out to you or use a dyndns client to get it without
configuring it to use the proxy and set a dyndns domain name for you so
that you can access it by name. That's what I do except I use a
different site for fetching the IP.
