Hmmm...  It might be possible to get a Debian-like installation that
will *actually work* on my hardware?  I may have to try Debian again.

(The last time I tried Debian, it just wouldn't work at all.  I 
suppose I could have fixed it given enough time and effort, but since 
Red Hat and even Gentoo worked "right out of the box", as it were, I 
didn't see any point in spending the time.)
