Here is an idea that will probably start a flame war knowing how things go on around here, but i was just sitting here thinking that there may be "people out there" who don't really want to receive a ton of emails from the uug talking about how my dad can beat up your dad and my l33t emax rulz ur vi, but at the same time they don't want to completely abandon the uug because they feel like helping others who are new to *NIX, (and let's face it there are so few things we understand in this world, when we find something we do understand it makes us feel good to help other people who don't understand it as well as we do) So what i was thinking would be good is to set up a mailing list that is just an announcement list. The club officers could send emails to it and it would just be for things like announcing time and date of an install fest, the club meetings, local job postings or other things that people would like to hear about without having to listen to the tangents that inevitably spawn from such things. If someone had an announcment (such as and oss project that they were trying to get people involved in) they could send the details to the officers and if it was appropriate then it would be sent to the announcement list.
Maybe i^H err 'my friend' is the only person who would like something like this, but i doubt it. If nothing else it would let people easily flag the announcements and filter them differently from the rest of the email.
Any way, just my thoughts.
