I remember a while back talk about different hosting options available and have a few questions. The company we've got now has been great (no down time, no problems, etc.) but there's not a lot of controll over features on our end. I can't ssh in and do things to the mysql database, or ssh in and use vim to fix a spelling error. It uses cPanel and ftp access.
I'd like to either 1) Get a static IP and run a computer here as a server, 2) Put this computer somewhere else with a static IP and remote admin it, or 3) Get hosting service from somewhere where I have more controll over the machine. I don't need complete controll, I just want more options than cPanel gives me. :-) Any recomendations? What should I be looking to spend on this kind of thing? Here's some other factors... I'm moving to Austria for the summer. I have VERY little experience in running server, but I'd like learn more. I'd like to have enough room to host an iso or two should the need arise. Thanks!
