If I'm not mistaken, the Route Y credentials and the LDAP credentials
are one and the same.

As for verifying through Route Y instead of through LDAP there are a few
students that the LDAP doesn't seem to work. I've no idea why but when
I was sys-admining in the CS department we would get 1-3 students a
semester that we couldn't verify against LDAP. And it wasn't just a
network hiccup because it would be tried multiple times to verify.
