I wish I was more of an expert on it to answer your questions more
fully.  I'll tell you what I know.

At my work we have been developing a system that currently has it's own
user base, but we planned on integrating it into BYU's user base in the
future.  We were going to user LDAP for this, but we were later informed
about this single signon thing.  It sounded to me like it was very
recent (maybe it's not even quite ready).  I know that using single sign
on is the best way to do things so you can manage passwords and access
from a single point so I thought it would be applicable to mention here.
However, what I have told you is all I know about it.  Sorry.  If you
want to know more, I would call OIT and see if they are in a good enough
mood to help you.  :)
