They may work, though you'd probably have better luck with an atheros or
intel card.  b/g cards are pretty cheap.  Here's one:

Another advantage of the Alix or RouterStation Pro is that you can
upgrade to whatever radio you want down the road.  I think there are
b/g/n cards that will work with openwrt and the madwifi driver.
