I don’t know, but it does seem rather absurd to suggest that Microsoft’s Win

That is exactly what the benchmarks I quoted show. On both OLD hardware and NEW
hardware.

"Older" and "Newer" have nothing to do with it. You seem to imply that "newer"
is by definition "better". When in fact, "feature creep" (eye candy, extra
services not needed by most users loaded at system startup, etc) can lead to
BLOAT and bloat (more lines of code) end up executing slower than less lines of
code.

And btw, your mention of "use DOS" was a cheap shot. I was comparing recent
Windows versions, implementing the win32 programming API.

When/IF ReactOS (a free software implementation of a win32 compatible OS) gets
stable enough -if ever, it´s a long shot-, it will surely by my OS of choice
for running win32 apps virtualized.

In the meantime, if I need to run the Jabaco compiler for windows virtualized
in a VBox VM under Linux, I´ll prefer to use a WinXP or Win2K VM if possible
rather than virtualizing WIn7 for little benefit along with wasteful use of
ram...

With all due respect, I never said you don’t know what you are talking about,
but if we take opposite sides on an issue, it is easy to mistakenly conclude
that I would imply that. Quite honestly I am surprised that as a volunteer
moderator you feel inclined to bicker over your difficulties with different
OS’s in this manner. Windows bashing is a favorite pastime for trolls and
fanboys, but I was expecting more prudent conduct and true “moderation” in this
place. My original simple question about ReadyBoost immediately gave rise to a
lot of worthless Windows bashing. This seems par for the course around this
pro-nix group, and that is fine with me, but you should, in my opinion, see it
for what it is.

“Older and Newer” have everything to do with it when it comes to advances in
technology. Cars today are much faster and more efficient than they were 15
years ago, as is our military hardware and software technology. Time brings
advances in knowledge and practice normally. If you can’t see this much, well
I can’t really explain much else about it. No one here has denied the
disadvantage of feature creep, but that is not what our conversation about the
relative merits of Win7 versus WinXP was concerned with, at least it wasn’t for
me.

I acknowledge the excellence of WinXP and I did not even bother with Vista,
talk about bloat! I used XP for a long time after Vista appeared.
Nevertheless, there is no consultant in his right mind nowadays who would
suggest that his customers downgrade to WinXP for their main systems. None I
know, and I work alongside many. The internet is full of documentation and
pseudo-studies and tests concerning this or that technology, of all sorts. You
can find “objective” results to substantiate anything you want.

I am quite sure that my experience and qualifications with this technology is
every bit as valid as yours. I make a living with my knowledge. If you think my
comments are merely subjective because they differ from yours and that my
results are not well founded, then you are apparently prone to making rash
judgments. I cant argue with someone whose opinion is etched in stone.
Hopefully we will find a more fruitful topic to discuss in the future unless of
course technology moves us into different directions. Good luck.
