That is exactly what the benchmarks I quoted show. On both OLD hardware and
NEW hardware.

"Older" and "Newer" have nothing to do with it. You seem to imply that
"newer" is by definition "better". When in fact, "feature creep" (eye
candy, extra services not needed by most users loaded at system startup,
etc) can lead to BLOAT and bloat (more lines of code) end up executing
slower than less lines of code.

And btw, your mention of "use DOS" was a cheap shot. I was comparing recent
Windows versions, implementing the win32 programming API.
When/IF ReactOS (a free software implementation of a win32 compatible OS)
gets stable enough -if ever, it´s a long shot-, it will surely by my OS of
choice for running win32 apps virtualized.
In the meantime, if I need to run the Jabaco compiler for windows
virtualized in a VBox VM under Linux, I´ll prefer to use a WinXP or Win2K
VM if possible rather than virtualizing WIn7 for little benefit along with
wasteful use of ram...

* and I didn´t even mention Microsoft´s use of .Net/C# beginning with
Vista...
