Thanks for your reply.
Yes. I have USB enables and tried to add a filter for the device.
However, it sometimes says "Unknown device 1130:6801 [0302] and
sometimes it gives the line "Tenx Technology".
I can enable the filter for "unknown device 1130:6801 [0302] but when I
start the guest and look at the Devices menu the filter line is seen but
grayed out.
I have no idea how to enable the USB and I don't know much of XP so I
cannot see if e.g. the USB drivers are installed. In the hardware item
in the configuration menu 2 USB main hubs are displayed and said to be
"working correct" but I don't know if I have to believe that.
Maybe you can shed some light on this problem.

This has been covered several times on the list, and is covered in
the documentation - the user you are running as does not have
permission to access the USB device(s) that are grayed out. In your
case, you probably do not have permission to access any of the
devices. This has to be changed in the host OS...

Mikkel,
Sorry for asking the obvious but I haven't found it in the manual. The paragraph on USB does only tell you to be subscribed to the vboxusers group as I did. I have no idea which permissions have to be set, especially as vbox is started from the user account (and not from root). I have permissions for networkdevices, disks so I can use my peripherals, however, USB devices not. If you can give me a hint where I have to look I would be grateful.
Joep
