Good afternoon all.
So far I have flies from Martin, Rick, Al, Nev and myself. Mine are the best as
you would expect !!!! Tony has said that his will be in the post Monday, Rene
has said his are ready to go too but has had a few problems.
I have heard nothing at all from Don or Mike and Reuven.

Can you let me know if you are still interested in being part of the tribute or
have folded.
Look forward to hearing from you allCheersKeith

    Birdie fly plate?
| KP <kpt...@btinternet.com>: May 27 12:00PM -0700

 Hi all,
I know I am just lurking these days but this got me out of my hole.
This is a great idea. And as several folk have already said presents one
problem. Getting it to Mrs Burgess a. Unbroken and b. So she doesn't have a
customs bill.
So............... how about I meister it here in the UK and frame it. I
will not deliver it but get it delivered by courier insured. I don't like
to do the bereaved bit. My nuts are too small!

Just need numbers of intended and a way of covering costs not that they
would be huge. I have done some framing flies and take various levels of
care but most turn out ok!!
This one would receive the utmost attention to detail. I would go with a
square or oblong frame not round. Positioning is easier.
As for the IOFF well I don't have a list of members but am fairly sure
Birdie was not a member.
So let me have your thoughts but more importantly if you are in don't hang
around because I think we need to get it done quickly so she understands
the significance of it all to those that corresponded with the man.
Over to you folks
Keith

GREAT idea, Keith. That makes the most sense of anything.

> As for the IOFF well I don't have a list of members but am fairly sure

No he wasn't. And the more I have thought about it, I don't feel
including the list of IOFF members is such a good idea, even making
Brian an "honorary" member. Why? Because it was all done in jest and
was written quite humorously. I don't think a person would be able to
see any humor in it, having just lost her husband to a long and bitter
struggle with cancer.

However, the fly plate from his closest friends could be very meaningful.

Just my own tuppence worth.

 Hi KP:

That would solve the major logistical problem since you are located in the UK
and I know you from way back when. I have no problem with a certificate or
whatever from the IOFF to Birdie as recognition. The other alternative is to
include a photo lab copy of the photo of Birdie & his daughter. The photo is a
little dark but could be made slightly lighter and more vibrant with Adobe
Lightroom or a similar app. The photo lab could probably do this.

Thinking about it Al you may well be right on the certificate. So I would
say forget that idea.
Nev the photo is a good shout. If you wish you can email it and I will have
a play with Picassa and use it as a focal point in
the centre.
Are we going to limit the number? After all this subject got me out in the
open again so may also do so with other lurky types.
I ask because this will be the factor in frame size.
Any fly you fancy as long as it fits the frame ( NO 17/0 hooks Don :-) 15/0
are fine ;-) )
So there you go. I will tie a fly on a salmon hook Spey style.
Cheers for now
Keith

My list of the Members of the Bored is dated March 8, 2008.

This list was created by none other than our own infamous Jimmy D. Moore
who, by the way, tells me that he is high and dry in Texas, unlike a lot
of areas nearby.

 Hi KP:

I have taken a copy of the photo that Birdie’s daughter Kelly sent and have
used Adobe Lightroom to perform a minor crop,
The seat in front of them with the sweater & water bottle have been removed as
the main attention is Birdie & Kelly. I have also
tweaked with the exposure and white balance in order to make it a bit brighter.
I am no expert with Lightroom and am still
trying to learn how to use it to improve my photos.

I suggest that you locate a good quality photo lab. Very often the best may be
found at a store that specializes in cameras.
Ideally you could copy it to a thumb/flash drive and take it to a local store
and discuss what you want for the picture.
It should always be saved at full strength i.e. full size. I will email to you
via Dropbox full size and then you can download them.

Re the flies - In my humble opinion, trout flies and salmon flies don’t display
very well when they are mixed together especially
as the hook size for salmon flies is normally much bigger. This is just my
personal opinion, but I feel that the end result will look
better if the flies are either all trout or all salmon but not a mix.
Furthermore, it is better to keep the size roughly the same.
Just my 2 cents worth.

I attach my draft of the pictures. The darker on is the original and the
brighter one my tweaked version . I will send the full size
versions to you via dropbox…………………..Nev

 Hi Al:

Adobe is changing the way it is doing business. I purchased Lightroom 5
Christmas 2013 and they have just recently released Lightroom 6, however one
can get the latest versions of Lightroom and Photoshop by monthly subscription
of $9.95/month as an online web based program. It is rumoured that Lightroom 6
may be the last time that it can be purchased as a software program on a disc
and all future version will be web based. I suspect that Adobe makes more $$$
that way.

Nev,

I just looked up the price for Lightroom. I don't do enough
photographic manipulation to justify buying it in any shape or form.

Y-A-K!! I could buy a really nice fly rod for that price. <g>

 Attention Don O:

Would you be willing to meister this as it was your suggestion and you are
extremely artistic? If you do accept and could get the finished product to me
(I have a postal address available just across the border) I would collect it
and take with me to the UK in the fall and get it to Birdie’s family.

| Neville Gosling <nev.gosl...@shaw.ca>: May 27 10:13AM -0700

It was Don O’s suggestion and he is much more artistic and a far better fly
tier than I will ever be. He may have some better ideas about the design of the
plate that he has in mind. Unfortunately, I am not very artistic and basically
tie flies to catch fish rather than for show (because they don’t look very
good). I am sure that if Don O was to create a plate of flies with the IOFF
background, that it would be top notch.

My idea would be to use the attached pic of Birdie and daughter Kelly with the
flies either around the edges or underneath. Portability and shipping of the
plate or framed artwork is a bit of a problem, but I am planning to go to
England in the fall, not exactly sure when - could be as late as November and
could take it then. If I was to meister, all I would need would be a single fly
from each contributor - this would keep it simple and less onerous for the
participants. A photo of the finished article would be all I need. I could keep
tabs of the cost and we could divi-up after delivery to the family.

Re Birdie, I just clicked with him because I was familiar with that part of
England where he lived and we did exchange a few e-mails off list. I did
telephone him when I was in the UK but just at that time he had visitors and so
our conversation was quite short. I meant to phone back but got caught up in
other events and never did. Like you, I never did meet him in person.

Sorry gents for the late reply.
But of course I'll contribute flies for the frame and the meister!

I like your ideas.

Would you be willing to "meister" this swap? I'll be glad to donate some $$$
(worth more in $$$CA) towards the frame.
