Thank all, and do I have the correct info for who to contact? I was confused about who to contact for: Paradise Now and Unveiled. Also, our art house Athena Cinema, works with Tri-State Theatre Service, so they might be able to get lower prices as well.
Thanks everyone, lorraine From: videolib-boun...@lists.berkeley.edu [mailto:videolib-boun...@lists.berkeley.edu] On Behalf Of Dennis Doros Sent: Monday, April 07, 2014 12:13 PM To: Video Library questions Subject: Re: [Videolib] Help securing rights Dear Lorraine, If it's a one-time use, often a negotiation with the distributor will provide a lower rental fee -- especially if you talk with them on a continued basis. Or even being conversational with them just once. Edith Kramer of the Pacific Film Archive had a technique of just talking for as long as it took to get the price she needed. She was a great conversationalist AND she knew that sooner or later the booker would be anxious to get to other bookings. Then again, there's only one Edith. The films below are what she would like to screen, and I'm having a heck of a time determining who to contact for pricing. First, do any of you know and second, is there a simple way of determining who has the rights? I know there is no 'one size fits all' - but any tactics would be appreciated. A few of them I think I nailed, but your input is welcome. Thanks for your time. The Syrian Bride, Kino Lorber, $349 Paradise Now Warner Independent Pictures? Just curious. I guess it all depends on how much cash we have.
