Trying to recover work related data from a PB 3400 that has network
authenticated password protection. It's been sitting in a closet at
work for about 10 years and our techs refuse to support something they
have no idea about. I believe the 3400 is running 7.6.1. I've tried
using my 7.6 (not 7.6.1) Disk Tools 2 floppy which the 3400 attempted
to boot but was thwarted by a 'restart' dialog stating that this
installer disk will not work on this model Mac. Not really buying that
but ok. Next I tried my 7.6 (not 7.6.1) install CD. Also denied by the
same 'restart' dialog. Maybe it's true. Baffled but confident, I next
tried my Mac OS 8 install disk and it boots to desktop and mounts the
internal HD. Yes! The Get Info panel for the HD reveals that there is
500MB of 'data'. However, when I open the internal HD there is only a
very small (46k) application named, harmlessly enough, "Open me". Um
no please. I'm assuming this is some security software that I don't
really want to run. The Get Info panel for it reveals that it's
version 1.6.3 of "Open me" from Highware, Inc. copyright 1994-1996.

Does anyone have any idea about what I'm working with here and how to
get around it?

Thank you.

Jason
