That's too thick. The focal point of scanners is the top side of the glass. 
Anything thicker than the original double sided tape will move the glass down 
and out of the focus.

Some scanners have quite a bit of field depth, some are precisely focused on 
the top of the glass and anything not touching the glass will scan blurry.

In my experience, the thicker the scanner, the greater its depth of field. 
There are exceptions of course! The scanners in many Brother multifunction 
units have zero depth of field. If it's not in direct contact with the top of 
the glass it'll scan blurry.
