The tantalum capacitors made with powdered metal compressed into a sponge seem 
to be very good indeed. I am using them on my collection of SE/30's with good 
results.

Older "wet" tantalums suffer the same problems as aluminum versions.

If you're talking about gold based "supercaps" I doubt that they're appropriate 
for old Macs. They have maximum voltage limits of about 1 volt and require 
series assembly to get to 12 and 5 volts required on older Macs. They're being 
developed with the idea of powering electric automobiles. I wonder. . . .
