Use Extensions Manager to narrow down the problem.

First, enable only Apple extensions and control panels. No problem? Enable 1/2
of the 3rd party extensions.

Still no problem? Disable that half and enable the other half. Still no
problem? The conflict is between something in one half and something in the
other half.

Split them into different halves and try each until you boot up and have the
problem. Now you know the conflict is in those extensions.

Split that group in half and repeat the process until you find which is the
problem.

This is called a binary search. It can take a long time to do unless you get
lucky right away and find the problem instead of having to go through all the
possible groupings.

At times one might go through this search all the way with *all* possibilities
and still only have a problem when all extensions are enabled. In such cases it
tends to be a weird combination of three or more causing a problem.

Something to be aware of is some programs and hardware do not work and play
well with System versions newer than 7.5.1 or 7.5.3. There's no 7.5.2. It was
extra buggy and got un-released very quickly.

Some companies got fed up with all the changes each version from 7.5.0 through
7.5.3 where they had to do programming changes for each System and gave up on
the Mac market permanently or didn't return for quite a while. In some cases
the problem isn't the hardware, it's the software/drivers. For example
E-Machines (no relation to eMachines) NuBus video cards' control panels do not
work with 7.5.3 and up when loaded during boot, so resolution can't be changed
without a reboot. Some Radius Nubus cards also have issues with 7.5.3 and up.
The 24AC video card with ROM version 1.0 has issues too, but ROM version 1.1
fixed it.

That's why Apple skipped 7.5.4 and went to 7.5.5. They buckled down and made
certain *before release* that the major vendors' products were going to work,
and they rolled all previous enablers and many other things that were formerly
add-ons and options into 7.5.5 to make it more stable.

You can expect 68k hardware and software that post-dates 7.5.5 to work with it,
likewise PPC stuff up till the release of 8.0 or Macs that shipped with and
require at least 7.6.
