I have a Colour Classic that is being a bit iffy for want of a better word...
two reasons:
1) on bootup, it chimes...screen greyish....then its like 'reset' screen goes off for a second then chime...then its ok. - anyone know why?
The PRAM battery is dead and the OS you have installed requires 32-bit addressing. A lot of older Macs I have (including both x100 PowerMacs) have to set this explicitly then reboot if the PRAM battery is dead or absent. I think OS 7.6 onwards require this.
Is that all? Perhaps it's not dead but dying because with CC's if the battery is dead then it won't boot at all. Well it is a relief to hear that it is something as small as that. I was worried someone was going something much worse! And how very intuitive of you...why it is 7.6...*gasp*...BUT YOU FORGOT THE ALL IMPORTANT .1 !! 7.6.1! :-D hehe
(daniel is rather excitable right now due to having his kitty on lap purring! Awww!)
2) I finally got into it today to get rid of that huge black border around the picture that was just wasting space...i make the picture small, perfectly square then stretch it verticly, nice, stretch it horizontally...and...erm...on the left of the screen there is like a huge back bulge poking into the picture and on the left, a similar buldge but smaller...what is this?
I know its not pin cushion (that what its called?) because i fiddled with that and i could see the picture moving (i put an open window in the middle of the screen to see) but nothing was happening with this bulge!
Sounds like an analogue board fault
Nooooooooooo!
or you over adjusting he picture
Hmm...maybe
(I have done that on SE/30s) but either way get it square and leae it like that. If there is a large black border in the position it is 'most square' in then it might have a dying or fault A.B.
Well I can get it square, and I can get it to go right up to the edges of the screen its just that this bulge is in the way (MOVE! MOVE!)
The first doesn't matter much
Bugger, that was the one I knew the answer to :(
Aww...don't worry, i'll have a rummage around for another battery and your advice won't be wasted. :-)
