Hey all, Finally I'm digging into fixing my "New" but wounded 1914. It's mostly torn apart but its time to start cleaning it. Its been full flowed, was a new case with new everything with under 1000 miles on it when it had foreign object damage and bashed up cylinder 3 and its cylinder head.
Thus far from what I can see the bearings look good. The oil that came out of it after the damage looked terrible. All the pistons and cylinders still had their cross hatching on it. Cylinder 3 has some where at the top of it but all the ring lands are intact but they piston top is obviously bashed up. Right now my plan of attack is clean the snot out of the block. Most likely I think I should replace my oil cooler. Will flush out all the oil passage ways. I'm thinking its wise to check for clearances on the bearings even though they look good. I'm debating picking up a new set of lifters since there is some pitting. Probably time for a big photo dump so you can see the damage.... Happy Friday and I'm sure there will be more questions coming form me in the near future. -- Visit the VintagVW archives at http://www.mail-archive.com/[email protected] --- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "VintagVW - Air Cooled Volkswagen Discussion List" group.
