Well, it's most annoying. :) I'm wondering if there's another bug around
yearly repeats. I tried to save this birthday as an event that recurrs every
year, without trying to toggle the all day switch. Although it let me click
through to "done," the event wasn't saved.

That is a known voiceover bug in ios 5. Hopefully that will be fixed in 6.
