Hi Wendy,

You can add your ringtone to iTunes as a song, then find it in your list of
songs, right click on it and select the "Create AAC version" option. This will
convert it to an M4A file which is the iTunes music format. You then have to
rename this file so it has an extension of m4r, then copy it back into your
automatically add to iTunes folder and next time you open iTunes it should be
correctly moved into your Tones folder and added to your Tones library. You
then still have to connect your phone and sync it over.

Alternatively, and if you are just doing one or a few tones I find this even
easier, you can use a number of free online converters out there. One I tried
and find very simple to use is at the following URL:

http://audio.online-convert.com/convert-to-m4a

Once you are on that site just use the button quick nav key to find the
"browse" button. This will open a regular windows dialogue, find your file
wherever it is saved and select "Open". Now use "b" again to jump to the
"convert" button, wait a bit and check the notification bar to see if you are
prompted to open or save the file. Select save and the converted file will be
downloaded to your Downloads folder.. Keep in mind that it's only converted to
M4A so you will still have to rename the extension to m4r before you can Copy
it into the automatically add to iTunes folder, open iTunes to automatically
move it to the tones folder and add it to your tones library. Now sync the
tones to your phone.

If you use Windows 7 chances are the setting to "Hide extensions for known
file types" is turned on in which case you have to go to "Tools" and "Folder
Options", then Control+Tab to the "View Page", tab twice into the treeview of
options and press pagedown once, then down arrow once. This should take you
onto that option, if it is turned on you can turn it off by pressing the
spacebar. Now tab to Ok and activate it. The m4a extension will now be part of
the file name and visible, you can now press F2 to rename it, all you have to
do really is change the "a" at the end to an "r".

Good luck,
Sieghard

Hello all,
I still can't get the ring tone that I downloaded into Itunes. How do I
convert this file? It is an mp3 file. Thanks for any help on this.
Wendy
