Hi

It is indeed with the wall charger and the cable that comes with this. The
phone is not even set up as yet, this still has to happen. I just charged it,
so we could use it, and this is when it happened having to turn the connector
around. Thanks for answering this, as I did think that it should not matter
which way the connector goes into the phone.

Regards

Jan

  Hi,
this is not normal behavior. Are you using the Apple charging cable, if so it
should charge no matter the position. Is this with the wall charger, I would
try a hard reset and see if that gets it working.... A hard reset will not
erase content or settings, simply refreshes the operating system. Hold the wake
sleep button and home button for about 7 seconds to do a hard reset. Try
another cable if you have a space, or better yet take it to apple if it is
new... position. I have not had this problem using Apple and Amazon Basics
cables. If the phone is in a case, try

  Feliciano

    Hi all

My wife has obtained a new iphone 5s, and so we wanted to charge the phone
for the very first time. My understanding was that the connector could be
plugged into the phone, no matter what side was up, meaning that it would go
into the fitting of the phone regardless of which way around you connected it.
Well, it indeed does fit no matter which way you turn the plug, but my problem:
does it only charge going in a certain way, as when my sighted child got to the
phone, he informed me that the phone was not charged. I was astonished about
this, so he turned the connector the other way, and sure enough, the phone is
now charging. Is this indeed the way it has to work, as one would have to mark
the connector then, especially should you not get any voiceover speech for some
reason when charging the phone? I thought I read somewhere that it did not
matter which way the connector was connected to the phone with the lightning
cables provided, so is this understanding of mine wrong then?

    Any help greatly appreciated
