What do you mean it was stuck on the screen where it displays the greeting in those different languages? This is normal. Are you saying you weren't able to double tap or three finger swipe to get past that screen?

IOS doesn't get updated automatically. It gets downloaded automatically, and you may be asked if you want it to update later, like over night, but it won't update without you accepting the terms and conditions.
