Good day to you. The nul issue is a current bug that Apple are aware of.
The work around is to close and reopen the app after having deleted the
message.
I do agree it's highly annoying and a productivity drain. ( Specially if
one gets a multitude of in coming conversations.
Quite frankly I'm baffled how they didn't address this bug earlier
during the beta period.
