Holly, Thank you for this informative and helpful reply. I will try your suggestion with the app and I'll be sure to report the issue to Ring that these buttons, which are very important, should be accessible via swipe gestures. I also didn't even consider that Alexa would have support for the doorbell. I will be sure to enable this and to link my Ring account with it.
