I think my task on the weekend will be to upgrade and tweak this phone back to
health. I will certainly make sure that I am updating to iOS 13.2.

Thx, Albert

Hi Albert,

Except now you have 13.1.3 or whatever version of iOS 13 on your phone and
today iOS 13.2 was released which really is the version you want. If you now
update using the update on your phone it will most likely update to one of the
13.1 versions and you then have to update right away to 13.2 again. I would
probably delete this update and then update straight away to 13.2.

Thanks Sieghard. It is already downloaded and I haven't taken the steps others
have outlined, in that I've not deleted it from the phone. I opt to shut it
down each night as my phone automatically goes to Do Not Disturb at 11 PM and
isn't allowed to come back to life until 8 AM, so it's of little consequence
anyway.

I know a couple of people who had their phones update unexpectedly overnight
because they left them turned on and plugged in, so I'm using this strategy to
ensure that Apple waits until I'm ready to update. From what I'm hearing on
this and other lists it won't be long before I jump into the iOS13 pool. I
will do so over a rainy weekend so as to not waste too much of my weekday
working time tweaking it back to efficiency.

I have saved several of the tips and tricks you all have shared here for the
day when I make that move. The next decision is whether it'll take a bottle of
wine or Scotch to get through the process.

Thx, Albert

Hi Albert,

Instead of completely shutting down your phone you could simply ask SIRI to
turn off WiFi over night.
As long as you made sure the update hasn't already downloaded, this will
effectively prevent this from happening since an iOS update will not download
while on cellular data.

Allen and Janet, I too have not updated to iOS 13. I avoid the automated
install by powering off my cell phone every evening. It will only do the update
when the phone is plugged in, powered up and left alone for a few hours. It
never tries to update during the day while I use the phone so I power it off at
night when not in use.

Thx, Albert

Janet,

I also have Settings, General, Software Update, Automatic Updates turned off
but as you said, iOS 13.x updates have still downloaded to my iPhone 8 numerous
times. When I get a popup asking me if I'd like to install the downloaded iOS,
I always select later and then I'm prompted to enter my personal ID after which
I'm prompted to agree to terms and conditions. I always disagree in the bottom
left corner of the screen and the update is not installed. I then immediately
go to Settings, General iPhone Storage, iOS 13.x and double tap on the
downloaded iOS in the list, select delete, and remove it from my device. A day
or two later, the download happens again and I repeat the cycle.

I'm not interested in leaving iOS 12.4.1 until iOS 13.2 is officially released
and they've hopefully fixed the bug with Voiceover and third party software
keyboards.

HI Jenn,
Thank you for this, as I do and have always had auto download turned off. I
think rather this feature is turned on or off, the download will still
download, but if we don't want the update on our phones, we have the option to
install by accepting the license agreement or not. This is the way it works on
my phone. Although, I'm just not for sure why we have the auto software
option, if the update still downloads.

Hi Janet,

If you have automatic updates turned on, it will download to your phon e
whether you want it or not. The best way to keep it from downloading is to turn
this setting off in settings, general and software updates.

Hope this helps,

Jenn
