Hi Sieghard,

I'm not going to argue that resetting one's settings after a full reset can't
be done but the amount of time involved will be a function of one's memory or
documentation of custom settings which I suspect few have. I believe I had
reset most of mine accept for the background wallpaper color which was reset to
what appeared to be an orange color. I could not figure out how to get the sea
green color I previously had back. The bigger issue is identifying the benefit
of resetting all your settings. I know James said it resolved most of his
issues but it certainly didn't resolve the one I reported to Apple
Accessibility. And I can't say I was noticing any difference in responsiveness
of my SE 2020 after the reset so the cost of the reset in my case was a lot
greater than any benefit received.

Subject: RE: How I solved most of my voiceover iOS 14 problem how I solved most
of my voiceover iOS 3 team problems

Hi Alan,

I don't think people should be that terribly afraid of resetting all settings,
but of course you have to assume that this does exactly what it says, it will
reset "all settings" to factory default.
If you actually take a moment to read what it says before youc onfirm, you
would see this:

This will reset all settings.
No data or media will be deleted.
After you confirm you are furthermore told that it will erase any payment cards
on file and since passcodes and any Touch Id or Face Id entries are also
settings they will also be deleted and after the phone reboots there will be no
passcode, you will have to again set one up and redo your Touch or Face Id
authentication.

I actually did this also on Sunday and it took me maybe half an hour or 45
minutes to first of all reconnect to WiFi and rename my phone, then to set up a
passcode and Touch Id, then to add my two credit cards and to a large extend
the time was spend going through a bunch of settings like Background App
Refresh, Keyboards, Privacy/location services etc. and putting them back to
what I had/wanted. Of course that also included switching my main voice back to
American female SIRI, adding a German voice and so on.
Apart from that it was not such a big deal and I previously chose to erase all
settings and content and to start from scratch without restoring from a backup
and that was truly a lot of work since I basically redownloaded all my apps
again and set up everything from scratch.
Resetting all settings also reset my ringtone and other sounds to factory
default, but since I didn't erase all data and content my custom ringtones and
alert tones were all still there and it took me maybe 5 minutes to set my
custom tones up again, go into the individual Mail accounts I have to set up
the tones I want for them etc.

Best regards,
Sieghard

James,

I'm glad resetting all your settings corrected most of your iOS 14 issues. I'll
caution others from doing that because when Apple Accessibility had me reset my
settings in connection with an issue I was reporting, not only did doing so not
affect the issue but all of my custom settings were reset to factory defaults.
This was such an inconvenience that I attempted to get my settings back by
restoring an iTunes encrypted backup which failed and hung requiring me to
restore my iPhone SE 2020 to brand new factory defaults. Fortunately, after
doing this, I was able to restore my iTunes encrypted backup but I spent about
12 hours on Saturday messing with the phone.

Earlier today I posted a big list of stuff that was going wrong with voiceover.
This is on iOS 14 and an iPhone 11 promax. Tonight I reset all settings but did
not erase all data. The problems went away. I dont know what it was What
setting I had screwed up. Hopefully it does not come back. Hopefully it does
not come back. To reset all your settings go to General in settings all the way
to the bottom reset in settings all the way to the bottom reset
