Note the apple tv 4k (new) supports the dolby atmos format,

But without the speakers to work with it you don't just get dolby atmos,

If the home pods support atmos,
Great but does your sound bar?

I believe the newer sonos arc and base do but my sonos play bar doesn't,
Neither do the sonos play 1 speakers.

Mary,

I am using a LG 4k TV. I honestly couldn’t tell you more than that though. As
long as you have the new Apple TV, you’ll be able to use the Dolby Atmos audio
as the Apple TV is what makes that possible. The toughest part of the Dolby
Atmos is finding content that supports the format. I haven’t found any as of
right now. I’ll keep looking though.

I had the sound bar set up in a different HDMI port and for some reason I was
still getting audio through it, but it was with a 1 second delay or so. I made
using both the HomePods and the sound bar unbearable. I even turned off the ARC
function on the Apple TV and just tried using the sound bar with the HomePods
connected via Airplay like I use to with the 4th gen Apple TV, and the delay
was still there as well.

I might have to just stop using the sound bar all together in the living room
and stick with the HomePods, I find the audio to be better rounded and voices
are much clearer as well.
