I am just in the process of switching to a new provider and I will be switching from a physical SIM to an eSim. I asked them how this would work and they told me that because I was switching to a different provider they would send me a new physical SIM and I would first insert that and then my cell number would be transferred to them. After that and he said I should give it a few days I can then activate the eSIM which he said will be done by scanning a QR code they also send me. I asked him what I would have to do if I wanted to get a new phone down the road and was told that at that point they would once again send me a QR code which I would scan on the new phone and that would activate the eSIM. I did not know you can transfer an eSIM to a new phone the way you described. Not saying it can't be done, but that is different from what I was told by my carrier here in Canada..

I transferred my 8Plus to my 13 pro max including e-sim. I had to do it via iCloud. Verified the cell service worked fine. Well the icloud restoration got hosed.. so I stopped the restoration. Signed out of icloud and reset phone back to factory default. I connected to Wifi and Bluetooth. Managed to transfer data from 1 phone to the other phone. Problem is no cell service on either device. 6 AT&T tech support reps cannot figure it out. I have no phone at all.
