Exactly, now that I am switching back to Telus here in Canada which offers eSIM and where I can finally also add my cellular Apple Watch for an extra $10 so it can work more independently I want to switch to eSIM so that when my wife and I go back to the Philippines where she is from it is way easier to just buy a prepaid physical SIM there and stick it into the empty tray. This way my Canadian number still works, but I can use the local service for most things. I could, if I wanted to also get another physical SIM here, even just one without data and have a separate mobile business phone number, but I won't do that because now that I am using a VoIP phone system at work it is not required as I can get any calls made to my business number on my iPhone and I can choose to answer them after hours or not and I can call out via the app from my VoIP service which to the person I am calling appears like I am calling from my business number.

The e sim usage isn’t something we have available to us in NZ With 2 of our main providers, Another one does use it but doesn’t’ advertise the fact. I asked them how this would work and they told me that because I was switching to a different provider they would send me a new physical SIM and I would first insert that and then my cell number would be transferred to them. After that and he said I should give it a few days I can then activate the eSIM which he said will be done by scanning a QR code they also send me. I asked him what I would have to do if I wanted to get a new phone down the road and was told that at that point they would once again send me a QR code which I would scan on the new phone and that would activate the eSIM. I did not know you can transfer an eSIM to a new phone the way you described. Not saying it can't be done, but that is different from what I was told by my carrier here in Canada.. I transferred my 8Plus to my 13 pro max including e-sim. I had to do it via iCloud. Verified the cell service worked fine. Well the icloud restoration got hosed.. so I stopped the restoration. Signed out of icloud and reset phone back to factory default. I connected to Wifi and Bluetooth. Managed to transfer data from 1 phone to the other phone. Problem is no cell service on either device. 6 AT&T tech support reps cannot figure it out. I have no phone at all.
