It is a little tricky at first.
You need to touch on the very, very bottom edge of the screen, and do a smooth 
slide up the screen.
You should hear a tone, keep sliding, you should hear another tone and feel a 
vibration; lift your finger at that point to go to the home screen.

Do the same gesture, but slide farther beyond the second tone/vibration to a 
third tone/vibration and lift for the app switcher.

If you start hearing the normal clicking sound when VoiceOver indicates you are 
on a blank portion of screen, or starts  speaking app names, you missed the 
beginning of the gesture and need to start over.

If you just want to go to the home screen, you can tell Siri, go to the home 
screen as well.
