That's only if you stay at home and never travel. On the other hand, if you
do travel then it's very much worth it. Many stores offer coupons and
special offers when your in their store. When you get out of range, they
vanish. Weather apps can give you local forecasts based location etc. Many
GPS apps use the data from cell towers and helps give you a better fix. But
like I said, if you sit at home all day and never go anywhere then I suppose
it wouldn't be useful but I can't see most of us doing that. My hole point
is, there are very good benefits for doing so.

I was just reading this today and was similarly surprised. One thing I
would do right away is switch off location services for the app; I
don't believe there's any advantage to you to leave them on. Actually,
this is the case for a number of apps, including VizWiz. There's no
tangible benefit to you to have location services on and in fact it
probably has a small impact on battery life.
