Hello Jenny, It sounds like the SMTP is not set up correctly or least that is what I think your problems is at.
If you go to the Settings -> Mail, Contacts, Calendar. On this page it should have your email account that you are using. If you double tap on this account. This will bring up your e-mail account settings. On this page make sure that your SMTP is set up correctly. In most cases it also may require that you enter a password for the SMTP. If you need any more information. Let us know. We certainly would try to help you out in what we can.
