it sure is, our cell provider is celling more 4s's than 5's.

I don't think this is the case. You've been able to buy brand new iPhone
4S since the iPhone 5 was announced, and I doubt Apple stocked a year's
worth of iPhone 4S in advance. A quick Google search lead to the web
page
http://appleinsider.com/articles/13/03/12/apple-to-diversify-manufacturers-for-iphone-5s-and-low-cost-iphone
where it talks about Apple's manufacturing partners producing low cost
iPhones, namely the 4, 4S and upcoming 5C. Also, don't forget the global
picture where the iPhone 4S is still a very popular phone.

Hi all,

I think it is very safe to say that Apple does not manufacture anymore
phones right now than the 5 and have stop manufacturing the 5 now as they
begin to roll out the 5C and the 5S. In my mind, they haven't been
manufacturing any IPhone 4 since the 4S came out and 4S since the 5 came
out. Why should they manufacture old phones when they have loads of phones
in stock. Companies have to purchase a certain number of phones and don't
sell them all right away due to the great number of phones Apple forces them to buy. If you buy a new 4S right now, you can be sure its old stock. When there is no more old stock, then they start selling used ones and when there
are no more used ones, they give you a deal to buy the next model up that
they are stuck with anyway because there are 2 other models out by then and
life goes on.

Hi Christopher,

I think it's very safe to assume that the 4S will go away because of what
you said about the 5C and the 30 Pin connector. Except for the 5C having a 4 inch display and Lightning connector it is much more like the 4S than the 5
is since it is rumored to have the a5 processor.

I think it is more than conceivable that there will only be a couple of
versions of the 5C and the new 5S in 32 Gb, 64 Gb and 128 Gb. Of course now
that it is Sunday afternoon we will all know in less than 48 hours.
Speculation is fun of course *smile*.

Sieghard

I don't think the question is what's going away. Obviously there will still
be a lot of iPhone 4, 4S and 5 out there. The question is what will Apple
still be manufacturing and selling as new iPhones. Googling around reveals
that there's a lot of speculation out there, and we won't know for sure
until Tuesday.

One rumor is that the 4S will be the entry level model, with it's smaller
screen, the 5C will be the midrange model and the 5S will be the high end
model. In this scenario, the iPhone 5 would stop being manufactured since
the 5C is so similar except for the plastic body.
Given that the 4S still has the 30 pin connector though, it may be the phone
that's discontinued.

The other scenario is that the 5C becomes the low end model, the 5 is the
midrange model and the 5S is the new high end model. In this scenario, Apple
would stop manufacturing and selling the 4S.

One article where the various rumors are discussed is at

Ditto. The 4 or the 4s won't be going away either, the 3Gs will though
as iOs 7 will not run on this now ancient phone.

Jumping in to this discussion, I doubt the five will be going away

Siegard, Are there still rumors the 5 is going away? Just wondering
what I will be able to get at upgrade time in December. Thought I
would be going to the 5, but on Apple Today, think that is the name,
it seemed to be the rumor
5 would be going away. Maybe the 5-c would be the upgrade, hoping not!

Hi Tess and others,

As Fred pointed out, the Apple event during which we learn all about
what the new iPhone has to offer will be on Tuesday at 10 AM Pacific.
I can't remember when you were able to preorder the iPhone 5 last
year, but it is assumed that the new iPhone just like last year will
be in Apple Stores on Friday, September 20 and also that if you order
it from Apple online that you will get it on that day. I think you
will be able to preorder the phone eiter on the 10th or shortly after
for delivery by the 20th.

If you want to know more I suggest you check if Rob will put out
another Today in iOS Podcast episode today or tomorrow. He did
mention the following on the Today in iOS website regarding what we
might see in the new
iPhones:

Here is a Bingo Card with many of the Rumors being thrown around for
the next Gen iPhone (5S) and possibly lower cost iPhone (5C) and what
may also be announced at the September 10th Event.

These are not my predictions - just a listing of some of the rumors I
think have even a remote possibility.

We will go over this Bingo Card on Ep 281 which will be out late this
week and then again on Ep 282 which will cover what was announced at
the Special event.
