Hi Christopher, As you said, it doesn't look like we'll be changing each other's minds so this is my last post on this subject. Let's wait until tomorrow to see what Apple will have to offer us. One way or the other, I don't think either one of us will be going forward to an old phone. I'm due for an upgrade so I'm looking forward to the announcement so I can decide if I will buy outright a 5C and get a plan without a contract or go for a 5S on a plan. I'm still in favor of getting the 5S on a plan but, who knows. I wish I could afford to buy a 5s outright because I know that would be cheaper in the long run.

From what I've read, the 4 and 4S are still being manufactured, or at least they were a few months ago when Apple added another manufacturer to their low end iPhone supply chain. Modern companies don't keep vast inventories of stock around any more. Storing stock is extremely expensive Companies try to optimize their supply chain as much as possible. I'm not sure if they still use terms like just in time manufacturing, but the science or art of not having any more inventory around than absolutely necessary has been around for decades. I think it's more likely they were just out of stock of the iPhone 4 than it was they weren't manufacturing the iPhone 4 anymore. In managing their supply chain, Apple tries to predict iPhone sales. For example, Apple has cut it's iPhone manufacturing a bit to track with the slightly sluggish sales caused by smart phone fatigue in the marketplace.
