I too would like to know how to turn this autocharacters off. I'm using touch screen at the moment, and it's annoying when it comes up, and you have to go and delete the letter it makes you press.

However, if I select the letter E, VO announces "alternative Characters available, slide your finger to discover alternative characters, lift to select a character" and if I slide my finger around VO tells me what these characters are and I have no idea what they are. I am guessing this is some characters for languages other than English. For every letter on the keyboard the alternative characters are different unless it's like the letter R where there does not seem to be an alternative character.
