Hi Alan, It all depends on how your computer or iPod Touch composes e-mails. Unless you have it set to compose in plain text, all messages are composed in HTML, which forces the text message to be sent as an MMS and so the data charges get charged.
Having said that, I noticed, Teresa, that you’re using a MAC computer for your e-mail. If that’s true, there should be in your mail settings the ability to specify how your messages are composed, either in plain text, or HTML. You’ll have to switch the composition of e-mails to plain text, at which point, you can use the e-mail addresses Alan specified in his message. Hope this helps. SMS messages are usually limited to 160 characters when sent using a mobile device but might be limited to 140 characters when sent via a computer's email client. Messages with pictures or without limitation on length can also be sent via a computer's email client. These messages are called iMessages in the iOS world or mms messages in general.
