Ok, I get it. In, let's say, the Contacts app, one can only see so many
names on a single screen, right? You're conveying that with an iPad one will
be able to go from only seeing 10 contacts on the screen to quickly
accessing 20 contacts, correct?

I too use an iPod Touch 5th gen, and in the case of the Contacts app, my
solution for such a situation has been to first use a three finger swipe up
to move from page to page until I reach the screen containing my desired
contact, at which point I swipe to the right to make refinements. For my
second solution, it's quite easy and very quick to find a contact by
executing a 1-finger double-tap and hold on the "Table index," and when you
hear the chime (don't lift your finger off of the screen), you can slowly
move your finger vertically down the screen to hear each letter of the
alphabet at which you will of course stop when you hear the desired letter,
and you can now swipe to the right to look through each entry that begins
with the letter of interest.

In the case of finding an item within the Settings screen, for example
finding the Notes app, I use the 2finger triple tap to invoke the item
chooser which lists all apps in alphabetical order, and I then simply swipe
to the right to place focus within the list of apps at which point I begin
using the 3-finger swipe up to work my way over to the apps around the
letter N. Practice this process a bit, and you might be surprised at just
how quickly one can find an app of interest. If you get good at finding
items in this manner, you might save yourself a few bucks as well as not
having to maintain yet another device. <Smile>.

Don't forget that you can also simply ask Siri to do all this for you.
<Smile>.

In regards to mail, you might be able to accomplish your goal by practicing
a bit with the iOS selection controls.

Hi, Joseph,

Smaller screens require you to scroll more to display more information.
Larger iPad screens might fit two or more pages of iPod or iPhone screens.
In web browsers, this isn't quite as important as in, say, the mail app, if
you're trying to mark and delete a large chunk of mail messages. On my iPod,
I have to keep scrolling down to access more messages, but I would think I
wouldn't have to do this nearly as often on a larger iPad screen.
